Garage sales – I found a guitar for $5.00 once at a garage sale and bought it for my grandson. We rented our son’s alto saxophone while he took lessons in high school. Experimenting with musical instruments should be part of every child’s growing up experience, at least in my book.

My son recently became very interested in Star Wars, so we threw him a Star Wars-themed party for his birthday this year! That meant I had to be pretty creative for my son’s party. I took at least three trunks full of “stuff” to Goodwill, I had a garage sale, and I sold things online. I’ve taken pictures of my son’s favorite preschool paintings and drawings, and when I see a good deal on photo books, I’m going to create one for him and toss the originals.

I love to shop garage sales. College students have the option of renting books now. There are multiple online sites that let students rent, buy used or sell books. One of my relatives did this for the four years their son was in school. Learn to love hand me downs from relatives. Buy don’t rent.
