When the holidays are over, when the toys are old and tossed aside, when the wind and snow are howling outside, and the kids are wailing “ I’m bored” what can you do to entertain and educate them? I learned how to play chess to teach my own 8 year old son. Make your own play dough (puzzle, website, puppets).

If you work out at home, there is very little prep work – just jump into your sweats and start. Unlike Miss T and her Sweat at Home, Skip the Gym posts , I’m not too imaginative about making up the right exercises to do. TV – but this is also our main form of entertainment so I can’t really count the cost of it!

I’ve been an architect, day-care teacher to toddlers, and library clerk, but am currently a SAHM to a 14yo son and 9yo daughter. We share our home with a 70lb rescued mutt. Besides dealing with my sudden unemployment when my oldest child was a toddler, I was hoping to figure out a way to extend my time at home with him.

Do you have any Thomas & Friends little engineers at home? Well my son Colin, sure does. Colin loves his Thomas & Friends toys and play sets, which can entertain him for literally hours. Well if your kiddo’s are anything like my son Colin, they too will love learning and growing up with Thomas & Friends.

We have a one story ranch home of around 2300 square feet located on 6 acres within 4 miles of stores, medical care, entertainment, gasoline stations and more. Although our home is pretty age friendly already, we are now thinking about changes we should make to allow us to stay during the rough times of old age ahead.

We tried to avoid these things by packing our lunch, cooking meals at home, and shopping with a list to avoid overspending and wasting money.
