I accessorized with some clearance finds from Target and Sam’s and we are really happy with our new sunroom. Both our CD and high-interest savings account are FDIC-insured and are at banks that we trust. As much as we would have loved an extra day in Florida, it wasn’t an option, so we rented a car.

Back when I was engaged and living on my own for the first time (I lived with my parents while in grad school to save on rent), I went to the library a lot and found a copy of the Tightwad Gazette. We rent now and are much happier. People are surprised that we are in our fifties and renting, but it works for us.

The first thing I do every morning is make coffee, sit down at my desk, open my budget spreadsheet, log into the bank, and enter anything that came out overnight plus what we spent the previous day. Our store has a LOT of overstock from Target. For one-time projects, consider renting. Keeping track of your money is crucial.
