We are privileged in that we both have good-paying jobs and have more than enough money to cover the bills. I made some foolish choices shortly after graduating college, burning through my savings and running up credit card bills. I remember my mom showing me how she balanced the checkbook every month and paid bills.

My own sister-in-law paid for travel to Hawaii by charging her son’s college tuition (this option, by the way, is no longer available with her card company). I hate getting a bill for something I ate, digested and eliminated a month ago! I just won’t waste the time it takes to manage the rewards. Here is why.

Her dream of becoming a college professor died when her dissertation was not accepted and she did not win the doctorate. She is on the low income payment plan for electricity and uses her Social Security check to pay that and the water bill. Sink Into Depression. There are of course, many other reasons people become homeless.

I learned from the best, but I believe that a personal finance course should be a requirement for both high school and college graduation. I can’t even imagine how many repair bills from plumbers, electricians, appliance techs, and auto mechanics he has saved us over the years. That’s not right. Made me proud!

For 20 or so years I’ve been homeschooling my kids, and am now down to about 1 1/2 (one full-time homeschooler, and one doing College Credit Plus with some support). We also want to get our kids through college without them having loans to pay back, and we are 1 out of 4 on that so far! If we want it, let’s buy it.
