I’m in good company with my love of all things used. If you think buying used is just for people who are on a tight budget, think again. The most famous large family, the Duggars, routinely buy as much as they can used. Their motto is “Buy used and save the difference.”

My cute kids when they were little I used to be a Spanish teacher until I stopped working to stay home with my kids. but can use our money to enjoy life now and meet our family’s needs while still being responsible for the future 5. I use a grain mill to grind grain for our sourdough bread.

If you’re thrifty and willing to compromise, there’s no need to blow the budget when your new arrival joins the family. A lot of the things that you’ll be buying will only be in use for a matter of months so it makes little sense to buy everything brand new if you’re on a budget. How vital is the item?

In 2015 I’m challenging myself to rethink purchases by taking advantage of more cost effective solutions like borrowing, buying second hand, or just making do with what we already have. We have some hefty financial goals this year and this is just one more way for me to squeeze more from our budget.

In 2013, The Christmas Savings Club encouraged all of us to save monthly so that we could have a cash Christmas. In 2014, the Grocery Budget Challenge encouraged us to keep our grocery spending in line and to be creative with our meal planning so that we do not over-spend. This is going to be a daily challenge for me.
