I love to buy things second hand. Likewise, thrift stores are always full of people. If you think buying used is just for people who are on a tight budget, think again. The most famous large family, the Duggars, routinely buy as much as they can used. Their motto is “Buy used and save the difference.”

Additionally, it’s really important to us to have money to give to our kids so we save for that reason too. Another, very important frugal win, my very frugal husband who’s a natural saver and set us up for success by buying his first house (a foreclosed property) at 28. I dread the day we need to buy a new vehicle.

Buy second hand. Goodwill and thrift stores offer great prices on new and gently used items. If a couple is done having children they may have plenty of gently used items they can give or sell you on the cheap. Parents-to-be can easily overspend on baby items; adding hundreds of dollars to the household budget.

Choose Thrift First. I want to challenge myself to rethink our purchases by taking advantage of more cost effective solutions, like borrowing, buying second hand, or just making do with what we already have.
