While I am not that thrifty, and I love prettily wrapped gifts, I don’t like to spend a bunch on wrappings. I bought a roll in 2011 and have been using it for everything from Christmas wrap to kid crafts to posters to mailing packages every since. For small packages, find interesting magazine pages to use in wrapping.

Are you a ‘buy it new’ snob – one of those people who shudder at the thought of using someone else’s cast off stuff? After 10 years of not having enough money to buy new things, I found my dream job and started getting high pay. I paid hundreds for a slightly better model at Best Buy years ago.

I was shocked as to how cheap some of the packages were. The first one I saw was a package deal – hotels, flight, and tours – to China for almost two weeks for less than the cost of an all inclusive beach resort vacation. This means that if you are going in a group of four, one of you can get free travel. How about you?

We will package everything up and hand deliver it – saving on postage and getting and giving a bit of Holiday cheer. To hold down costs, I’ve been looking for recipes that are more thrifty in their use of things like nuts, chocolate and sugar (all the good stuff!). Flavored popcorn. Caramel corn recipe.

There are simple ways to cut down on waste, from buying concentrated household products to buying in bulk. Buy in bulk or in loose. When you are working on a home renovation, buy your screws, nails, and other bits out of the bins and not those packaged in boxes. Buy energy smart. Go thrifty.
