At that time, I had not reviewed my own spring clothing and I have plenty of time to go back to Target if I can’t find something suitable (and cute) at the thrift store. Make a list of what you need and take it along to your favorite thrift store FIRST before you go to a regular store.

While I like to shop at thrift stores, I have a hard time finding TALL length jeans for my 5’10 frame and I was in need of new jeans. At first, I thought my eyes were deceiving me, so I marched right into the DSW to see what shoes I could find around $49. I found a really cute pair of TOMS shoes marked down to $49.99.

I stopped by my two favorite thrift stores last week: Salvation Army & Community Aid, a local store. I cleaned out our closets a couple of weekends ago and I found that we are in need of some spring & summer clothes. Finally, spring has arrived in central PA, so I carved out some time last Wednesday to hit the thrift stores.

If the stigma of thrifting gets to you, remember, it’s not “used”, it’s “vintage”. To set up a swap, gather a group of friends and have them bring anything they want out of their closet-dresses, t-shirts, shoes, accessories, whatever. Machine washables will also be a lot cheaper than dry clean only items over the long haul.

However, there’s always stuff to sell, like outgrown, but good clothing, shoes, toys, household goods, etc. I shop at thrift stores frequently and I am always amazed at how much I see with store tags still on the product. But that store credit is much better than sending it to the thrift store as a donation.

When you are spending more than you actually make a month, you need to downsize your appetite, your desire for flashy clothes, your shoe collection, your car collection, and your attitude.
