Our son is 29 and biological. My dad was a blue-collar worker – a machine operator on the railroad who sometimes got laid off for periods of time in the winter. My mom cut coupons and sewed her own clothes and mine, as well. Just over the past week, our son replaced the fuel pump and exhaust system on his truck.

My degree is in mechanical engineering, but I’m just starting a transition to nursing – before I got pregnant with my son, I was working as a nursing assistant while my husband finished grad school, and planning to go on to nursing school. They had me, and then my mom decided to go back to school full-time and get a PhD.

My niece goes to Goodwill and buys what I can only describe as bags of junk, and she makes a full-time income selling it on eBay. Used clothing, toys, and necessities sell very well. Things like bassinets and newborn clothing are in high demand and sell quickly! You’d be amazed at the things people will buy.

My husband is an extremely hard worker as he works and goes to school full time. Here I was, leaning against his $20,000 truck, while my $15,000 car is sitting in the drive way of our $150,000 house, and through all this our 8 month old son was sleeping in his $400 crib, and I didn’t have $20 bucks of my own money to get gas.
