How did you get interested in saving money? When I got my first job in high school, my parents said I had to save a percentage of every paycheck. As a foolish young high school kid, that rule annoyed me because I wanted to spend ALL of my paycheck, but I still saved a chunk of it because I had no choice.

Parents already know that back to school time is the second most expensive time of the year (right after the holidays). If you know you are going to want to have a tutor for your child this year, use a college tutor. Check with your local college for students who are majoring in the subject your child needs help with.

Sunrise with my daughter at Lake Michigan Our son is now 15, and about 25 hours into his private pilot’s license, which he’s funding by earning money working for my father-in-law. C with Finn, my parents’ dog Our daughter is 12, and very into the arts and science. K and Finn (my parents dog) 12.

My parents were good at guiding careful spending habits without it being a burden. What’s the “why” behind your money-saving efforts? Why do I want to save money? I should have known he was special as he asked for a set of “Time-Life” home repair books when he was in college.

For 20 or so years I’ve been homeschooling my kids, and am now down to about 1 1/2 (one full-time homeschooler, and one doing College Credit Plus with some support). How did you get interested in saving money? What’s the “why” behind your money-saving efforts? Maybe four years? Not at all.

I came into adulthood struggling to pay my way through college and then struggling to repay student loans on a small salary. As I was paying my way through college. I replaced the water pump and exhaust system on my little old Nissan in the parking lot of my college apartment complex. I learned how to repair my own car.
