Basically there are two reasons to compost. The first is to recycle leftover food, grass cuttings, and fallen leaves that might ordinarily end up in a landfill. The second is supplementary to the first–you use the compost as fertilizer. There are many ways to store the compost until it’s ready to use.

As I was flushing a very old, forgotten-about, slimy Greek salad down the disposal last week, it occurred to me that I have gotten a little lax about leftovers at our house. (I I didn't compost the salad, because it had feta cheese mixed in) We certainly eat leftovers, but by the end of last week, we were (1) lazy and (2) lazy.

Compost kitchen scraps. Compost our leaves and grass. Compost our leaves and grass. Use compostable garbage bags. Cook from scratch every meal and freeze leftovers. Household changes we’ve made : Switched from chemical cleaners to homemade phosphate and eco friendly ones. I walk to and from work.

Zero-waste is a concept that the very idea of waste should be eliminated; instead, any and all products, resources, materials, and leftovers should be returned for further use in the same or in a different capacity. Shredded paper can be put in compost piles. Nothing should be thrown away, ever: there would be no such thing as waste.
