As a family, we try to be good stewards of our environment: We crossed 10 paper products off our grocery list and replaced them with reusable alternatives.

Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes. Compost it by cutting it up and putting it on the pile. We passed around pieces of food in the dark and told a story about how the pieces were parts of a body. What do you do to recycle/reuse on Halloween? No kids = no money on candy = no candy wrappers in the landfill.

You need to bring in five plastic bags for recycling in order to be eligible for the free bag. Be sure you call ahead to make sure your store will be offering them.

Buy In Bulk By eliminating all packaging of food supplies, we could substantially cut the amount of packaging trash we throw away each day. Glass or metal can last a lifetime should you wish to reuse either one and are better recycling material than plastic is. Shredded paper can be put in compost piles.

If you really want to send out paper invitations, use recycled or handmade paper and use a single sheet. Choose decorations that can be reused or that are made of natural materials and so can be recycled in the garden or compost. If you really need non-breakables, look for the clear polymer drinkware that is 100% recyclable.
