Of course, our expenses during that time were much lower than they are now that we have three kids. I am over a thousand miles away from my mom, and I feel bad that she can’t see me and her grandkids more often. My son was 4.5 years old before his first sister was born, so we did have a (brief) taste of raising an only child.
