When I was younger, I used to think that a higher income was the solution to most of my financial issues. So we re-jiggered our finances so that we only spend on things that we really enjoy, and that are really important to us. Living there would be a different animal altogether and it would take a much higher income to make do.

After all, there may still be useful life left in it, no reason to trash it just because one little thing goes wrong. We have a structural engineer coming tomorrow to tell us what he thinks should be done to fix it. Good thing we have that emergency fund because this won’t be cheap to fix. Why tolerate broken?
