We didn’t factor any road trip costs into that number (as road trips would go into “travel”), and we only accounted for $100/month maintenance costs for both vehicles. You support the local economy when you shop locally, keeping your town, suburb or local area viable and productive. You do not have to travel in order to source what you need; you have it right there, close to where you live. As well as the time saving, you also save in travel costs and the associated stress of driving in traffic.

The PA governor has shut down all non-essential businesses indefinitely and we’ve now been ordered to stay at home unless traveling to essential jobs, needed supplies, or outdoor exercise as long as we practice social distancing. Pre-coronavirus, I considered having 3 months of expenses saved in cash to be sufficient. Cash is King.
