Hotels often have more amenities than Airbnb, such as complimentary breakfast, fitness centers, and evening receptions. BEFORE booking a hotel or cabin, visit the website or app and sign up for their mailing list. Be loyal to your favorite hotel brand. If the hotel has complimentary breakfast, even better!

While I'll ask friends for recommendations, I'll also ask people I meet while out and about, like my Uber driver, or staff at my hotel when I meet them in the elevator (cleaning staff mostly, because they are the regular people who have to budget and don't get anything for sharing those special spots.

He once seriously considered driving 8 hours to Denver, just avoid the flight — which takes less than an hour. (He You don’t have to stick exactly to the plan (a little flexibility makes for a better trip), but if you have your airfare, hotels, and rental cars arranged ahead of time, it makes things a little smoother.

Pay an extra $50 or $100 for a flight that leaves at 11 a.m. Pay a little extra for a hotel closer to a downtown area and public transit? I won’t have to drive so much; maybe I won’t even have to get a rental car. I’m known for being willing to pay a convenience fee. instead of 6:30 a.m.? Sign me up!

Free first class flight to England. Free 3 Star Hotel Rooms. Of course I signed up with each airline and hotel for points. Employee pricing on new cars. Rental car discounts. This included a consult as well. I worked for TWA prior to it’s demise. My kid learned to program on that lender PC.
