Recycling is great for the environment and we should all be doing it (in spite of my title), but reusing is even better. When you can reuse or re-purpose an item, you are not only saving it from the landfills, but you are also saving the expense and energy which would have been expended when you recycle. Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes. If you sew, take off the buttons, zippers, lace, netting or whatever to use later. We passed around pieces of food in the dark and told a story about how the pieces were parts of a body. What do you do to recycle/reuse on Halloween? No kids = no parties or haunted houses = money saved.

2.) Use up all your food and reduce waste. It seems the more affluent a society becomes the happier we are to throw away food. are throwing away one fifth of the food we buy each year. Considering many people I know spend on average $150+ a week on food that would mean they are throwing away $1560 worth of food.

Learn to hem and patch and sew on buttons to repair minor issues with clothing. Use up your food. No one likes second hand food, but if you fix it differently the second time around it can still be appetizing. With fresh food – buy only what you can eat before it goes bad. Buy good clothing, used.

We also used the 40 year old burnt orange coffee pot to make coffee that day as well as the 20 year old ice chest and 25 year old rain ponchos from the local amusement park, old plastic forks and spoons, unused condiment packages from fast food restaurant stops and plastic tablecloths used at last years wedding shower.

We have accumulated a lot of stuff – lose screws, highly prized collectibles, everyday essentials, clothes that ‘might fit again someday’, tools, children’s artwork, food stuffs and more. Store food in the kitchen or as close to it as possible. This will also reinforce on your memory where you have stored your things.
