Years ago, Mom introduced me to the idea of going to garage sales. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales. Garage sales take time, you have to hit quite a few before you find the item you want or need. If you are in more of a hurry, find a thrift store instead. I love a bargain. My best finds.

Just look at the many people scouring garage sales in the summer. Likewise, thrift stores are always full of people. While they may have had to buy used in the early days of their marriage, they now likely have enough money to buy new, but they choose not to. Toaster Oven I bought a toaster oven at a garage sale for $2.

Understand what parts of the job may require code inspections and what the codes mean. Garage or estate sales. Thrift shops. I found wood frames for my national park posters and a wildlife themed shower curtain at the local thrift stores. Talk to people you know to find who they may have used for their work.

He built his own garage. At garage sales, are you attracted to those still usable but slightly defective items that no one else wants? If so, the new fixer movement may be for you! He made his own electric lawnmower. He fixed his own car. He was a trained radio and TV repairman, when those had tubes. I wish he was still around.

You may decide you don’t need or want the item at all if you push yourself to wait to get a bargain on it! However, I wait until spring and summer to buy decorations – and get them at garage sales. Stores also stock up on gift sets with cosmetics for the holidays and may need to move it fast in January. Winter clothes.

Here is a short list of some of my favorite finds at garage, estate and thrift store sales. I used an old seat cushion I had and wrapped it with brand new material from another garage sale to pretty it up and make it softer, then stacked new throw pillows I found at yet another sale for $.50 Glass leftover containers 3 for $.75.
