Garage sale and thrift store furniture bargains abound. Our home furnishings include many cherished family heirlooms, such as an iron bed my folks bought at a sale, or the hand carved bed frame purchased by my great-grandfather. Although upholstery material can be very expensive (think $25+ a yard), you can find it on sale.

We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes. Search the attic, the backs of the closets, the garage and see what inspiration presents. Dad’s old cowboy hat and a rope from the garage can be the start of a cowboy get up.

I put a bag full of her creations to go out to recycling, and my husband intercepted them because he couldn’t handle throwing out her work. I have a soft spot for good sales, whether they be at the local retail store (I bought way too many Gymboree shirts for my daughter when they were on sale for $3.99) or at a garage sale.

Be more “ Eco-Friendly ” by picking up one of our 100% recycled-plastic doo-dads! A giant pool, waterfalls, a 7 car garage, a dock for a yacht, 11 bathrooms, and 15,000 square feet of living space. It’s about reducing, reusing, repurposing, recycling, and regifting – not shopping. How in the world is that considered green?

There have been countless times I have seen nearly new, decorator pieces being sold for pennies on the dollar at garage sales because the homeowner decided to re-decorate. Most of them had little use for huge walk in closets or shoe racks to hold dozens of pairs of shoes or garages to hold more than one or two cars.
