Gasoline, groceries, drugstores, restaurants – you name it, my Amtrak card gets used to pay the bill. Buying groceries gives me at least 700 points a month and gasoline a few hundred more! Pay any tax bills with the card. I use Official Payments to pay my tax bills, which results in thousands of rewards points each year.

Are the taxes too high for the services you get? Will the taxes be higher? Are you up to getting all new service providers, banks, favorite gasoline stations, finding local entertainment venues and etc. Are there just too many projects to be done and too much ongoing maintenance? Is the climate what you want?

Check the register receipt with them to show them how it lists out the items, the price and the taxes (a great opening to introduce the concept of why we have taxes). Buying gasoline. Talk about various car expenses, besides gasoline, like oil, windshield washer fluid, mechanics, tuneups, tires, car payment interest and etc.

For the rest of you, keep gasoline usage in mind. If you are self-employed and your cell phone is crucial to business, use it as a tax write-off. If you are one of the few people who can live without an automobile by all means help out your wallet, air quality, and traffic by getting rid of your car.

These will include things such as insurance, property taxes, gasoline (to get to the lake and to boat on the lake), maintenance, boat slip fees and storage fees in off season. One boat owner estimated that you should expect to pay 3 times what you think you will to include these ‘hidden’ costs.

If you keep your head and are persistent, you can find many things you want or need, all in near perfect condition, for a fraction of the cost with NO TAXES due. That way, I can hit a lot of sales in just a few hours instead of spending time and gasoline driving around town. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales.
