A lot of you would classify indoor plumbing, central heat, grocery money and gasoline as ‘needs’ But wait, are they really always needs? Telephone? Attention, personal finance readers and gurus! You think you know the difference between a need and a want – right? Really, are you sure ? Why do we care about want vs. need?

Growing up in the 1950?s

Most telephones were on a party line (and yes the parties did ease drop on each other, but they also let us do ‘conference’ calls). Gasoline stations did not serve food, have coffee or provide bath rooms. I was born in 1948 so my early childhood was spent in the 1950′s. I remember it as a simpler time, but a less convenient and more labor intensive era.
