I won’t rehash our health insurance story here, because I have written extensively about it and INCLUDED OUR NUMBERS. We blew through our health savings account, and now need to save another $10k so we’re not caught off guard if another emergency were to happen. This will take us most of the year.

Health insurance is a bit more pricy than when employed, but less than a lot of other people pay. Our alternate income streams include an inherited IRA, real estate rental income and dividends/interest from investments. Now, however, I hear that the company will not consider re-hiring anyone laid off in the first round.

Use Up Existing Resources. Since she could no longer afford to pay it, she stopped the home insurance and stopped using the cars she inherited (also free and clear). She stopped paying income tax on the rare occasions when she did have income and did not pay county real estate taxes. Don’t Pay Your Taxes.
