When she saw that her great-grandchildren were not writing thank you notes for her gifts to them, she sent their parents a set of Thank you note cards with envelopes and postage! Our matriarch risked (and received) ridicule by family members to make her point about gratitude. She is spunky and outspoken. Why would someone do that?

The whole point of this post is that each of our situations is unique and requires a thoughtful, individualized approach to allocating and investing. But it’s not that simple. I’m keeping my allocations. The need for individualization is being recognized.

I will make sure that my grandchildren have a college fund that is untouchable until then or until 30 if they don’t go to college (that’s right - 30 ). And then when everything is set, I will find myself a little cottage by a beach and settle down to a simple life.
