Although I live 200+ miles away from my two grandkids, I try to get them for a week or so during the summer. There are many documented benefits to utilizing grandparents to watch grandkids. Not only are there health and social benefits, but there can also be financial benefits. I’m one of them.

But I’ve been having fun with the grandkids. I don’t listen to “rules” unless there are health consequences and really, we all survived as did my daughter so how bad can I be, right? And that is really the important thing. That’s right, I’m the naughty grandma.

Stress can do bad things to your health. From my Mother-in-laws perspective, the number one benefit to the great-grandkids of sending her a thank you note, is that she would continue to send them gifts. It makes sense, if you are grateful, you are less likely to be stressed out about your situation. Gratitude can make you wealthier.

Here, told as I would tell it to my Grandkids, are my top 5 lessons. To become self-sufficient, you not only need to learn the basics (like brushing your teeth and washing your hands), but you also need to pay attention in school, be aware of your environment, take care of your health (and stay away from drugs!)
