I’m using metal containers to pack my lunches Reusable containers make for a greener lunch, and a cheaper lunch. I love glass containers for food storage at home, largely because they are see-through. But for lunches, I love metal containers. That’s the best kind of hole for mending.

Last weekend my grown son was home for our autumn family picnic. Empty coffee cans are great for holding paint or turpentine or bacon grease. Plastic containers from sliced lunch meat are great for leftover vegetable or casserole servings. Paint rollers are used multiple times at our house. That thing predates me!”

If you want to get fancy, draw, paint or sew buttons on it for eyes. My recurring problem, of course, is that the cookie tins seldom come home to be refilled. We save them to use for a variety of purposes, such as holding paints, storing popcorn bags and yes, making Christmas cookie tins. Clothes pins.
