Pack Light The less "cargo" that a plane carries, the less fuel it has to use. I have several stainless steel and copper straws that I put in my purse to use when I'm out. Find sustainable restaurants While not always budget-friendly, I try to look for restaurants who use local and seasonal foods.

Right now, I'm still seeing airfare deals and you probably will still be able to get an okay deal on a hotel (and still get a room before they all fill up). I have almost exclusively used Turo for the last 5-6 years, but you can also rent through Uber now, too. The longer you wait, the more expensive things will be.

We will probably be renting a car for our vacation this year. This year, though, we are taking our precious grandson with us and the van just isn’t as reliable as it needs to be. Usually, if we fly somewhere and then rent a car, we just get the smallest (least expensive) type available. Rent by the week.

There was the gas, the hotel, and the restaurants to pay for. I bring a hot plate and a skillet and sauce pan with me to the hotel to reheat freezer meals that I’ve made in advance. Use discounts on rental cars. We rented an SUV for our last vacation because our car is getting very old and the route was fairly desolate.

They’re quality time spent together without the distractions of household responsibilities, work, school, and everything else life throws at us.
