A few years ago, when selecting a vacation home to buy, one of my criteria was that it had to be at a lake or on a beach. These will include things such as insurance, property taxes, gasoline (to get to the lake and to boat on the lake), maintenance, boat slip fees and storage fees in off season. So why buy?

We all love outdoor activities, but we don’t all enjoy the same ones. When they got married, they bought a duplex so that the rent money from the tenant in the upstairs apartment would pay the mortgage. Alan and I, by choice, bought land in an area with low property taxes. We don’t have to spend a lot for entertainment.
