In 2015 I’m challenging myself to rethink purchases by taking advantage of more cost effective solutions like borrowing, buying second hand, or just making do with what we already have. March Update: I did a little shopping in March and it was mostly for our oldest daughter. But I also found success at a thrift store.

There are still more ‘me’ gifts I’d like to buy, but I’ve managed to hold off so far. However, in reviewing the best things to wait to buy on various sites, I find that cameras are one of those items. I learned late in life that there are best times to buy certain things. All things Christmas.

In April, we saved quite a bit of money by comparison shopping, and choosing thrift first. Our 17 year old Kenmore washing machine stopped spinning the end of March. We found a guy who buys appliances from bank foreclosures and resells them. April’s Thrift Store Finds. Total Savings: $300.

Also, I tend to keep pieces for a long time, as I learned years ago that buying quality clothing lasts much longer than fast fashion. While I like to shop at thrift stores, I have a hard time finding TALL length jeans for my 5’10 frame and I was in need of new jeans. I won’t need to buy jeans for a few years. $20

Life, as we knew it came to a halt for so many of us in mid-March, and life going forward will forever be known as pre-pandemic or post-pandemic. Thankfully, my pragmatic side took over and we decided to replace our tires and take the next year or so to save up enough money to buy a vehicle with cash. March 2020 arrived.

Be willing to sacrifice- there are things we had to do that made us look weird: home school, skip eating out as much with family, doing my own hair & nails, getting a wardrobe from the thrift store and forgoing paper towels. I had a client engagement in Las Vegas in March 2014. If married, who initiated the debt free goal?
