Years ago, Mom introduced me to the idea of going to garage sales. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales. Garage sales take time, you have to hit quite a few before you find the item you want or need. I found a scooter for $1, a dollhouse for $75 and lots of kid clothes, worn once or twice and then outgrown.

I've been tackling clutter since January and I had the boxes stacked in my garage to prove it. Unfortunately not everything in your home is considered a tax deduction if donated. There are rules to follow when taking a tax deduction for your donated items. There is space for me to write down all of the items that are deductible.

Learn to hem and patch and sew on buttons to repair minor issues with clothing. Learn how to remove spots and do it as soon as the clothing gets dirty. Buy good clothing, used. Avoid buying cheap clothing new. Pass down serviceable clothing from child to child. Use up your food. Plan uses for your leftovers.

I pulled out clothes that I don’t wear and I’ll donate to the thrift store. My kids had a fun time looking at the hair styles and clothing choices of their parents through the years. The shoe shelf in our garage. I reorganized my bedroom closet and dresser. It turns out I didn’t need any of it anyway.

Even re-organizing the garage can leave you with a chill. If you plan to re-organize your closet and drawers, take the opportunity to go through your clothing and sort it into “keep”, “discard” and “donate” piles. Donate the items you no longer want to keep. Wipe Down the Walls.

She has a specific process of tidying up – you go through your various items, save what “sparks joy” and donate, sell and throw the rest away. I’ve found that many of my clothes I want to get rid of, I’ve only worn once or twice (and a few still have the tags on)! Also, if you have any ideas to add let me know.
