Also, I tend to keep pieces for a long time, as I learned years ago that buying quality clothing lasts much longer than fast fashion. Since November is always a big month for sales and coupons and the beginning of the cold season, I do most of my winter clothing shopping during this month.

And a friend of mine sells her homemade Christmas candy this time of year. However, there’s always stuff to sell, like outgrown, but good clothing, shoes, toys, household goods, etc. I shop at thrift stores frequently and I am always amazed at how much I see with store tags still on the product.

If you ask someone if they like to sit around and compare things; people, clothing styles, shiny cars, neighborhoods, they’ll tell you, “No, of course not, it isn’t nice to compare.” You can save tons of money over the course of the year by buying off brands, especially when stores offer deals such as buy one get one or buy 10 for $10.

I got brand new clothes , a stroller, a playpen, toys, blankets, the list goes on and on. Many of the other items I needed like cloth diapers and clothes for the baby in bigger sizes I bought from garage sales. Garlick got all of her children’s clothes and gear from friends, family, and sites like Freecycle.

Try replacing some paper products on your list with cloth and re-usable products that you probably have around the house and you will not only reduce your grocery spending, but you will also reduce your waste. Switch from paper tissues to flannel cloth hankies - Flannel is so much softer on my kids' little noses.

You can also freeze homemade meals, including soups, casseroles and other items. From taking good care of your car, to properly caring for your clothing, to keeping your appliances in working order, taking care of what you already have helps it last longer. Rather than throwing out the excess, you can save it for a later meal.

Most of us did not have clothes dryers, we dried the clothes on a line outside. On Halloween we did a trick for our treat inside of a neighbors house, without our parents around and got homemade goodies to eat as a treat. There was no polyester clothing. Clothing had to be ironed to look good. People dressed up.
