As well as other “from scratch” things like my current main hobby of teaching myself how to spin yarn from our sheeps’ wool. I can remember quite a few years in college and grad school when my part-time jobs juuuuust barely covered my expenses (and sometimes not even that!)

I had a college professor who told us that, before he “retired” to teach, he had a two-hour train commute — each way. He missed out on time with his two young sons, and he didn’t have the time he wanted to pursue hobbies. Some commuters try to make use of this time by listening to audiobooks and other useful information.

As a hobby. I made a set of short drapes for my son’s room by simply putting a hem all around the fabric and attaching a tape at the top that let me insert hooks that made the pleats form. For instance, in college, I was invited to a formal dance occasion. Why learn to sew? Why you don’t want to learn to sew.

I’m fifty years old, married almost 25 years, with four sons of various ages ranging from all grown up to still-working-on-it. ? For 20 or so years I’ve been homeschooling my kids, and am now down to about 1 1/2 (one full-time homeschooler, and one doing College Credit Plus with some support).
