Buying a home can provide a safe, stable, and personal space that your family can use as a haven. If you are buying a home to serve as an income property, you might be able to afford to spend a little more (assuming you can find a tenant to pay rent regularly) than if you simply plan to move in and raise a family.

We consider her our “bonus kid” and our family is extremely close. When they got married, they bought a duplex so that the rent money from the tenant in the upstairs apartment would pay the mortgage. Aside from those exceptions, we did all the work ourselves and with the help of family. Our son is 29 and biological. Go figure.

Or, you could buy property of your own (if you have the business funding, of course) becoming a property manager or landlord, renting out the space to tenants, maintaining the property and serving as their point of contact for any potential issues. Alternatively, you could develop apps for consumers. Want to start a business?

He started investing with other people’s money way back in 1956 using funds only from friends and family. First, I would be devastated if I lost the money my relatives provided and I’m sure it would cause a lot of family issues! I’m not sure I’d have the stomach for this.

It has an income suite, so we live in about 1300 square feet of the house, and our tenant (my brother) lives in the basement suite. If you are looking for a lot of space, you likely need to be looking at single family homes farther away from the cities. It can be time consuming, so be aware of this. If you want privacy.
