Christmas cookies are as synonymous with the season as gift giving. Some people don’t have time or don’t like to bake but would love to buy home-baked cookies and treats. I shop at thrift stores frequently and I am always amazed at how much I see with store tags still on the product. Are you Crafty?

Ask everyone to bring their favorite Christmas cookie or treat to share and as the host, offer the drinks, supplies, and other additional treats. To make clean up fairly easy so that you can enjoy your guests, I have found really cute and inexpensive party supplies, paper plates, cups, and napkins at the dollar store. Host a Swap Meet.

My favorite thrift store has a section dedicated to seasonal items. The number and variety of Halloween items in this thrift store surprised me. Costumes were typically home made but sometimes came from the dime store. Treats were mainly home made or low key – pop corn balls, cookies, apples or pennies.

Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales. Christmas decorations, wrap, bows and ribbon all are continuous offerings at pretty much every garage sale, thrift store or estate sale I’ve ever shopped. Use them to package your home made Christmas cookies and candies. Shop the after Christmas sales.

We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). Use the pulp for pumpkin bread, cookies, pies, soups and more. No kids = no money on candy = no candy wrappers in the landfill. No kids = no parties or haunted houses = money saved. Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes.

I’m always amazed by the amount store tags I see on clothing and household item at thrift stores. Research the store’s return policy for unused purchases without a receipt if you don’t have it. I have a friend who sells cookies and candy during the Christmas and Easter holidays. What is your skill set?
