It is a part of the human condition and I have a theory that we each have a life cycle of stuff and that it goes full circle, from no stuff back to no stuff. That life cycle of stuff is something we need, is natural and beneficial – never something about which to feel guilty. What is the life cycle of stuff? You get stuff.

Line drying clothing saves dryer cycles. How to mitigate: Buy a clothes rack or two, or string a line in your basement or unused garage. How to mitigate: I’ve heard that a half cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle can soften up the cloth. Line drying in the winter takes some good planning on wash cycles.

Run a hot cycle. When that’s done, sprinkle the base of the dishwasher with baking soda and run a short cycle. After an hour, run the washer through the longest wash and spin cycle. Even re-organizing the garage can leave you with a chill. I run the “clean” cycle on my oven, clean the lint out of the various hiding places on my dryer, and ensure my washing machine is build-up free. However, I find that when I start spring cleaning, I am usually surprised by how much work it is. Wipe Down the Walls.
