April’s Thrift Store Finds. Our youngest daughter came to us with a youth soccer league flyer and asked if she could try it. My husband and I want our daughters to be active and physically fit, but we want them to figure out their passions. The emphasis is on fun, participation, and learning the game.

We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). My daughter-in-law came up with this idea, buying bulk pumpkins and bulk flowers. The Scary for Kids website has a couple of versions of the rhyming story you can use with the game. Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes.

I have no problem shopping at a thrift store and not having cable TV, but I still want to camp and watch my daughters swim meets. There are people crushing debt every day and I want in on their game! There are definitely things we’re saying no to, but there are also things that we won’t to give up.

I’m always amazed by the amount store tags I see on clothing and household item at thrift stores. Research the store’s return policy for unused purchases without a receipt if you don’t have it. My husband had success selling unused video games for about $80 by posting about it on Facebook.

And rather than throw unused possessions away, donate to a thrift store or offer up on Freecycle.org. We are currently trying to teach our daughters this simple habit. Rather than purchasing new, check to see if you can borrow from a friend, barter, or buy second hand. Recently, we were in need of a twin sized box spring.

We have a retirement to plan , our daughters’ college to save for, and many places to visit. Choose Thrift First. I have made a pact with myself that if I don’t already own something that I need, I will either: make do with what I have, find said item at a thrift store, borrow, or forget about it.

Here is a short list of some of my favorite finds at garage, estate and thrift store sales. I had purchased a much smaller (less sturdy) one at Walmart for $20 – my daughter-in-law inherited that one. Brand new board games still in shrink wrap – Cash Flow – $3. Rattan loveseat and ottoman – $25.
