The challenge on the blog this year is to Choose Thrift First , where we’re rethinking our purchases to find more cost effective solutions. And the first item on the list was a new dresser for our younger daughter. I checked some local furniture stores to check the prices of new dressers. He has no qualms about much.

My older daughter is growing like a weed and has outgrown pretty much everything from last year, so I know I have some serious shopping to do. Fortunately, my youngest daughter doesn’t really need any clothing. With my list, I went to my favorite thrift store to see what I could find. Do you shop at thrift stores?

This year, my older daughter outgrew last year’s snow boots and my younger daughter outgrew her snow pants and there’s snow in our upcoming weekend forecast. So instead of heading to a retail store, I hit my favorite thrift store (on a Wednesday for their 50% off sale) to see if I would have any luck.

I stopped by my two favorite thrift stores last week: Salvation Army & Community Aid, a local store. I only go on Wednesdays, because both stores offer an additional 50% off on almost everything. Finally, spring has arrived in central PA, so I carved out some time last Wednesday to hit the thrift stores.

She also scarfed up any other gift wrap that looked usable, and she stored it carefully away for use the next year. While I am not that thrifty, and I love prettily wrapped gifts, I don’t like to spend a bunch on wrappings. My 5 year old grand daughter did it last year in my Grandma Rie’s Money Camp. Make gift tags.

We found the best price for the Gentle Leader Headcollar at Amazon (that is my affiliate link) at around $8 less than the big box pet store. The girls and I hit my favorite thrift store this week. And my oldest daughter got her first pair of Converse sneakers. They were also hardly worn and my daughter was thrilled.
