So instead of heading to a retail store, I hit my favorite thrift store (on a Wednesday for their 50% off sale) to see if I would have any luck.

In April, we saved quite a bit of money by comparison shopping, and choosing thrift first. April’s Thrift Store Finds. Our youngest daughter came to us with a youth soccer league flyer and asked if she could try it. My next stop was my favorite thrift store, Community Aid. Total Savings: $300.

I stopped by my two favorite thrift stores last week: Salvation Army & Community Aid, a local store. I only go on Wednesdays, because both stores offer an additional 50% off on almost everything. Finally, spring has arrived in central PA, so I carved out some time last Wednesday to hit the thrift stores.

And my oldest daughter got her first pair of Converse sneakers. They were also hardly worn and my daughter was thrilled.

She also scarfed up any other gift wrap that looked usable, and she stored it carefully away for use the next year. My 5 year old grand daughter did it last year in my Grandma Rie’s Money Camp. Some retail stores do still give out gift boxes for free, always check if you are buying in a brick and mortar store.

We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). My daughter-in-law came up with this idea, buying bulk pumpkins and bulk flowers. No kids = no parties or haunted houses = money saved. Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes. Buy one then sell, donate or exchange it.
