I have written often about the importance of an emergency fund. Being self-employed, we need the security that it offers. Cash is King.

My spouse suggested springing for a new frig, but I wasn’t ready to do that yet (even though we can easily afford one). I bought some ice cube trays and now make ice once a day in them. I love that ice maker and making ice every day is a royal pain. It depends on how inconvenient it is for you and your family.

You have to plant it, feed it, water it and care for it to make it grow big enough to notice. You can do this. You don’t have to make hundreds of thousands of dollars, you just have to have some money left over after taking care of your obligations. We have enough to live on from other sources and an emergency fund.

My husband and I make some financial goals at the start of every year. Tantrum aside, it’s still going to take years, but there is room for us to make some considerable progress in 2015. I will be sharing more about my family’s everyday life. My husband and I are pumped to make 2015 the best year ever.

Make it a Necessities Only Year. I have made a pact with myself that if I don’t already own something that I need, I will either: make do with what I have, find said item at a thrift store, borrow, or forget about it. Do you want to eliminate debt too? In other words, I’m coming up short. Choose Thrift First.

We even bought an online package years ago, but have since decided that we will have a lawyer draw up our will, medical directive, and power of attorney documents to make sure everything is in place legally.
