Gasoline : We currently budget $75 a week for gasoline which translates to a tank of gas for our van. Entertainment: This is the easiest budget item to cut since it’s not a necessity. We would be sacrificing our long term financial growth in order to make our budget a little more comfortable in the short term.

They also took the kids (one at a time) each year and entertained them by going to tourist attractions in their area. They drove the 200 mile trip on holidays and birthdays to celebrate with us. They provided Christmas and birthday toys and on occasion provided direct financial aid. Why are we boomers more involved?

Buying gasoline. Talk about various car expenses, besides gasoline, like oil, windshield washer fluid, mechanics, tuneups, tires, car payment interest and etc. Talk about where the gasoline comes from and the various jobs related to producing it. Entertainment Related. Seeing a movie. Talk about the relative cost of both.

Gasoline stations did not serve food, have coffee or provide bath rooms. Entertainment. People listened to the radio, watched TV, went to the local (one screen) movie house or entertained themselves. People read newspapers, magazines and books for entertainment. No, I didn’t wear a poodle skirt! All TV was free.
