I’ve been an architect, day-care teacher to toddlers, and library clerk, but am currently a SAHM to a 14yo son and 9yo daughter. We rented at first, but the rental situation in our new town was poor. Nine years later, the rent for similar homes in our neighborhood is double the cost of our mortgage! Enjoying some outdoor time.

Examine Your Entertainment Spending. Do you watch a lot movies at the theater or rent a lot of movies through a mail order service? Get them from the library where movies are free if you return them on time. Avoid this problem by carrying snacks wherever possible. Do the same for books.

Rent a learn-to-dance video at the library and take a laptop to a local park at night. Grab a book from your library. Poetry slams are free entertainment. If you want, invest in a book on the stars and learn to identify some of the constellations. Dance the night away. Movies are the same idea, but a lot less interactive.
