NerdWallet’s calculator doesn’t include tax data, which can vary by and within metropolitan areas. How is this tool different from other resources out there? The expenses that factor into cost of living can include housing affordability, transportation expenses, food prices and entertainment costs. And it adds up.

It’s a tool, and it provides security and options. Alan and I, by choice, bought land in an area with low property taxes. Had we not fallen in love with the locale, it wouldn’t have mattered how low the taxes were, but fall in love we did. We don’t have to spend a lot for entertainment.
