There was another offer on the house, but the offer was contingent on the sale of their home, so despite our offer being lower, ours was accepted. We rent to my brother, but prior to our current arrangement, we were looking for a tenant for the time period between when the suite was ready, and when my brother was going to move in.

Buying a home can provide a safe, stable, and personal space that your family can use as a haven. If you are buying a home to serve as an income property, you might be able to afford to spend a little more (assuming you can find a tenant to pay rent regularly) than if you simply plan to move in and raise a family.

We consider her our “bonus kid” and our family is extremely close. I still remember saving my change as a kid so I could “shop” for books at yard sales.) When they got married, they bought a duplex so that the rent money from the tenant in the upstairs apartment would pay the mortgage. Our son is 29 and biological. Go figure.
