When you can reuse or re-purpose an item, you are not only saving it from the landfills, but you are also saving the expense and energy which would have been expended when you recycle. There are well-made reusable and washable containers, bags, drink holders, and even straws sold at places like Reuseit.com. Everything in that lunch bag can be washed and reused or at least an be dealt with in an environmentally-friendly manner. Just stop using disposables. It’s quite simple, really. Reuse your own decorations. Other treasured items we reuse every year include huge a mottled green glass ball ornament from my grandparents, a set of 1950′s angel candle holders from a favorite aunt and two 3 foot tall paper nutcrackers made by my kids in elementary school in the 1980′s.

We have a few made out of stainless steel that keep our drinks cold and are very durable. They can be thrown in the wash and reused again for next time. A fridge will protect your food from spoiling at a temperature between 38 and 42 degrees F. Recycle and reuse. I even carry one in my purse so I am always prepared.
