The Frugal Girl blog does a great job of discussing this point! I bought out a lady at a garage sale long ago, made several dresses, shirts, shorts and cover ups out of some of the material and still have a gob left over. Time saved alone is worth the small effort you expend in learning how to make these repairs.

Although we tried diligently to follow this at one point in our lives, we found it a bit too time consuming to really follow it long term.
