We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). Search the attic, the backs of the closets, the garage and see what inspiration presents. Dad’s old cowboy hat and a rope from the garage can be the start of a cowboy get up. Free Kids Crafts has some ideas.

I’m sure most of you can add your own ideas to the list as well. We tear down big boxes and lay them on the garage floor in case of oil leaks. Once we used old magazines for a craft project in Camp Fire Girls to make a ‘sit upon’ (cover the magazine with something water repellent and sew the sides together).

What looked like a great idea on paper, was turning out to be very challenging. When my parents were my age, they were empty-nesters and converted my bedroom into a sewing room for my mother. Today, my husband and I can’t park a car in our garage because it is filled with 5 bikes, 2 scooters, 2 wagons, and a big wheel.
