However, since I have three kids, the artwork can pile up quickly. Unfortunately, this isn’t my first time. Boy, did I declutter.

As he learned about the market, he shared with me via a newsletter (hand written) that he created and distributed to his adult kids and their spouses. I learned to change the oil, rotate the tires, use power tools, cut the grass, paint the house, work with concrete and much more. He taught himself how to build and built his own garage.

Empty coffee cans are great for holding paint or turpentine or bacon grease. We tear down big boxes and lay them on the garage floor in case of oil leaks. Socks make soft containers for seldom used jewelry or if you have kids, they can be great puppets. Paint rollers are used multiple times at our house. Containers.

When I was a kid, I shook my head at my Aunt. For awhile, there was a trend called ‘Shabby Chic’ Old wooden furniture, painted white – with crackled or chipped finishes – were highly regarded by collectors and decorators. I know a few collectors. She collected lots of things, like stamps, Hummel figurines, coins and dolls.

I keep a roll of heavy paper (which I buy at Home Depot for about $11 for a roll about 2 inches thick and 2 feet wide) to use in wrapping packages, protecting floors during home projects, making garage sale signs and etc.

Peggy: Well, probably some of the same ones being espoused now (maybe our kids did pick up on some of our examples!). We shopped at garage sales, turned down the heat, combined errands to use less gas, didn’t buy a lot of prepared food, cooked at home and the like. I even made the kid’s play dough and finger paint.

The family behind us, for instance, lived for years in their basement with their brood of kids (they ended up with around 15 I remember). Grandma put us kids to bed in the south bedroom when we stayed over at the farm. There is a plant called poke that the mountain folks used for greens, but the kids had another use for that plant.
