The number will most likely not cover everything, but if they decide to pursue options that cost equal to or less than the amount we want to give them, they’ll be in great shape. The rest of the snowball went towards other things, such as a new-to-us vehicle, medical expenses, retirement contributions, and home repairs.

Becoming debt-free became very appealing and the idea of being able to give more, save more, and live more was the direction we wanted to go. To stay motivated I would listen to the debt-free screams on The Dave Ramsey Show. What’s your motivation for debt freedom? After the FPU class, we looked at our debts differently.

The bad news is that we were in our prime earning & investing years when we stopped contributing…just more motivation to keep going with this plan. The book walks you through the years starting in middle school and gives you a step by step check list. I’m only on chapter 3, but I think it will be worth the purchase.
