We’ve only bought 4 pieces of real estate in our lives, including two homes. We lived in the first home 10 years and are going on 23 years in our current home. You probably should be buying your home for the long term. Most counties now have real estate tax and appraisal records on line.

Not paying your real estate taxes. An acquaintance of mine inherited a 4 bedroom/2 bath home free and clear of any debt. Eventually he could not pay the real estate taxes and the home was put on the county’s tax lien sale auction. He ended up losing the home for want of a few thousand dollars.

A person, trying to help a family member figure out how to pay taxes on their home and thus be able to keep possession of the fully paid off home suggested that the family member take in a roommate to earn some extra money. The intention was to get some extra money and get the real estate taxes paid. Know the environment.
