We have some hefty financial goals this year and this is just one more way for me to squeeze more from our budget. In January, I only ventured into Target because our daughters wanted to go and spend some of their Christmas gift money. Can I find what I need at a second hand or thrift store? How did you do in January?

Our goal is to NOT put our Christmas purchases on a credit card. January will be one giant nightmare when the credit card bills start rolling in. Hopefully, that’s your goal too. Back in 2013, I had a year-long series, Christmas Savings Club , to encourage everyone to set aside money each month for the holidays.

If you have a big financial goal, think about how much you pay someone to do something that you are capable of doing yourself. I’m always amazed by the amount store tags I see on clothing and household item at thrift stores. I have a friend who sells cookies and candy during the Christmas and Easter holidays.
