Are we on our way to an actual depression (as opposed to the Great Recession)? Write down my life experiences on economic downturns for the future benefit of my grandchildren. Write a book about our experiences during the Great Recession and this aftermath of it and offer it for sale. How do you think it will affect you?

We planned our purchase in the heady days just prior to the recession of 2008/2009. Wouldn’t it be fun to have a place where our sons, their wives and our grandchildren could come together to play, visit and bond? Property values had risen considerably in our married lifetime and we thought they would continue to do so.

My grown kids are also savers and I have high hopes that the grandchildren will follow their example. Helping the parents teach my grandchildren to save is an ongoing project of mine. Lastly, being a saver sets an example for your children (or grandchildren) to model. Because I am a saver, I have now become financially free.

When the Great Recession began in 2008/2009, my boss at the time (a Vice President of the company) and her spouse consulted their financial adviser to see what they should do. They asked him what would likely cause us to come out of recession. My grandchildren’s other set of grandparents are just one example.

I wanted a place for our family to gather – adult children and grandchildren along with us. No matter if my family doesn’t use it as much as I’d hoped; no matter that they won’t swim in the lake; no matter that my spouse would rather stay home; I’m still enjoying the condo with my two grandchildren each year.
